Splash Page Image Size Guide

Learn the optimal image sizes and specifications for your Captive WiFi splash page to ensure fast loading and beautiful display across all devices.

Overview

Your splash page uses up to 5 different images depending on your chosen layout. Each image serves a specific purpose and requires specific dimensions for optimal display.

Image Specifications

1. Logo

Purpose: Your brand logo appears on the splash page so guests know whose WiFi they're connecting to.

Recommended Size:

• 500 x 500 pixels (square format)

• 600 x 300 pixels (wide/rectangular logos)

File Format: PNG with transparent background (preferred) or JPG

Maximum File Size: 200KB

Important Notes:

• The system automatically scales your logo to 150-250 pixels width on screen

• Uploading at 500px ensures crisp display on high-resolution devices

• Transparent PNG backgrounds blend seamlessly with your design

• Avoid very tall, narrow logos as they consume excessive vertical space

2. Desktop Background

Purpose: Main background image displayed on laptops and desktop computers.

Recommended Size: 1920 x 1080 pixels (landscape orientation)

File Format: JPG (smaller file size) or PNG

Maximum File Size: 500KB

Important Notes:

• Image fills the entire screen and may be cropped at edges

• Keep important visual elements in the centre

• If this is your only background upload, it displays on all devices

• Landscape images may appear heavily cropped on portrait mobile screens

3. Tablet Background (Optional)

Purpose: Optimised background for tablet devices like iPads.

Recommended Size: 1024 x 1366 pixels (portrait orientation)

File Format: JPG or PNG

Maximum File Size: 400KB

Important Notes:

• Displays on screens 1024 pixels wide or smaller

• Most users hold tablets upright when connecting to WiFi

• If not provided, desktop background is used instead

• Keep important content centred to avoid cropping

4. Mobile Background (Optional)

Purpose: Optimised background for smartphone devices.

Recommended Size: 750 x 1334 pixels (portrait orientation)

File Format: JPG or PNG

Maximum File Size: 300KB

Important Notes:

• Displays on screens 640 pixels wide or smaller

• Smaller file size is critical for slow mobile connections

• Layouts 3, 4, 5: Only the top third of the image is visible (form slides up over the rest)

• Layouts 1, 2: Full image displays behind the form panel

• Place most important visual elements at the top of the image

5. Landing Page Background (Layouts 3, 4, 5 Only)

Purpose: Full-screen welcome image displayed before the connection form appears.

Recommended Size:

• Images: 1080 x 1920 pixels (portrait orientation)

• Video: 1080 x 1920 pixels, MP4 format, under 10 seconds

File Format: JPG, PNG, or MP4 (video)

Maximum File Size:

• Images: 500KB

• Video: 50MB

Important Notes:

• Only available on Layouts 3, 4, and 5

• First thing guests see - use your most inviting visual

• Portrait orientation strongly recommended

• Your logo displays in the centre of this image

• "Connect to Internet" button appears at the bottom

• Avoid placing important details in the centre (covered by logo) or very bottom (covered by button)

Best Practices

1. Centre Important Content

Image edges are cropped on different screen sizes. Keep your most important visual elements in the centre of each image.

2. Optimize File Sizes

Guests connecting to WiFi often have slow initial connection speeds. Smaller file sizes create better first impressions through faster loading.

Recommended compression tools:

• TinyPNG

• Squoosh

3. Upload Device-Specific Backgrounds

Upload separate desktop, tablet, and mobile backgrounds for optimal display across all devices. Using only the desktop background on all devices may not look polished on mobile.

4. Understand Layout-Specific Cropping

Layouts 3, 4, 5: Only the top ~300 pixels of mobile backgrounds are visible on the form page. Place key visual elements at the top.

Layouts 1, 2: Full mobile background displays behind the form panel.

5. Choose Appropriate File Formats

• JPG: Best for photographic images (smaller file size)

• PNG: Best for logos (supports transparent backgrounds)

• Supported formats: JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF

• Maximum upload size: 10MB per image, 50MB for videos

Single Image for All Devices

If you prefer to upload one background image for all devices:

Recommended Size: 1080 x 1920 pixels (portrait)

This portrait orientation works across all devices:

• Desktop: Cropped to landscape (sides visible, top/bottom may trim)

• Mobile: Fits naturally without cropping

Keep all important content in the centre to prevent cropping on any device.
